Okay, file this under Delightful Irony. We were waiting to board the plane for our trip to France, when we saw something really bright and colorful running on the tarmac. I grabbed my binoculars, which I always travel with around my neck, to see what it was. Believe it or not, it was a little girl strutting her stuff in a maxi dress. She was literally walking the runway. Laughing out loud!

Let me explain the significance of this. Girls maxi dresses have always been a staple of the fashion industry. Why, back in the 1970’s when Jimmy Carter was ruining the country, you couldn’t find a closet that didn’t have a maxi hanging in it. So here it is now in 2013, and maxi dresses are back in vogue. And the girl who was wearing this one was strutting her stuff, letting every international flight know that she was here and fierce. Some of the pilots were yelling get that girl out of the way. But then a baggage handler came zipping out in his golf cart thing and screamed, “leave her alone. she’s in a maxi dress!" I was a little surprised that he knew what that was, but what do I know. I don’t want to judge anyone. Unless I’m on so you think you can dance. I would be hilarious on that show.
Finally, a flight attendant raced out and pulled the girl in the maxi dress to safety. But just as a personal aside, why can’t we say “stewardess" anymore. It doesn’t seem fair that we can’t live in a glamorous world anymore like they did in the old days. I mean, girls get to wear maxi dresses, why can we say things that are mildly sexist.
Anyway, as the child was being carted off by the TSA she screamed, “if you want a maxi dress like mine, go to www.twirlygirlshop.com" I thought that was very brave of her and also considerate. Indeed, I went to their website and was completely blown away by their huge selection of dresses.
